Ruby Gillman is a 16-year-old anthropomorphic Kraken teenager and is the main protagonist of DreamWorks Animation's 44th feature film Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.

She is voiced by Lana Condor.

Appearance[]

In her normal human size form, Ruby has an aquamarine skin, along with dark blue shoulder-length tentacle hair and vibrant turquoise eyes. Her wardrobe has a green turtleneck sweater, purple high waisted jean short shorts, purple, dark grey, and white striped stockings, grey knitted socks, and dark purple boots with purplish blue laces.

In her Kraken form, she has glowing purple skin with small spots all around her body, 5 tentacles with 4 fingers (three of them serve as legs, while two serve as arms). Her hair is longer.

Personality[]

Ruby is portrayed to be a quiet, shy, and awkward student at Oceanside High who tries to fit in with other students at school.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Kraken physiology: Ruby can transform into a giant kraken.
    • Laser eyes: Ruby can shoot energy beams from her eyeballs.
    • Super speed: Ruby can swim at a very fast rate.
    • Body armor: Ruby can make her body hard to resist attacks. She can use this to her advantage when in battle.

  • Ruby Gillman is DreamWorks Animation's seventh female protagonist, following Ginger from Chicken Run, Susan Murphy/Ginormica from Monsters vs. Aliens, Eep Crood from The Croods, Queen Poppy from Trolls, Yi from Abominable, and Lucky Prescott from Spirit Untamed.
  • Ruby is also DreamWorks Animation's first female protagonist to be a titular character and the seventh overall, following Shrek, Sinbad, Puss in Boots, Turbo, Mr. Peabody, and Sherman.
  • In the Menchie's Frozen Yogurt promotion, she has a raspberry sorbet named after her.[1]
  • She was mistaken to be fifthteen years old.
  • She shares some similar traits with Mei Lee from Pixar's Turning Red.
