Felonious Gru Sr., simply known by his surname Gru, is the main protagonist of Illumination's Despicable Me franchise.
Once a supervillain aspiring to steal the moon, Gru would adopt three girls named Margo, Edith, and Agnes one day in an attempt to use them to retrieve a shrink ray needed for his plans. However, over the course of the movie, Gru would warm up to his three daughters despite initially seeing them as disposable and in the end, forsakes his plans for achieving villain stardom in favor of becoming a true father to them.
Eventually, Gru catches the attention of the A.V.L and is hired as a brand new agent, where he meets his future wife Lucy Wilde, and while he fathers his daughters with her, he also fathers an infant birth son named Gru Jr..
He is voiced by Steve Carell as both adult and child, who is best known for playing Michael Scott on The Office, and himself in the Universal Studios series. Carell also voiced Gru's twin brother, Dru in Despicable Me 3.
